TIMELINE OF SERVICE

20 January 1980 -William Vetter enters the United States Marine Corps.

11 April 1980 -After graduating from recruit training in San Diego, California, Private First Class Vetter is assigned to 29 Palms, California, for Basic Electronics School and Telephone Switchboard Repair Technician School.

4 April 1981 -Lance Corporal Vetter is assigned to Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion 8th Marines, 2d Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, for duty with the communications platoon as a Telephone Technician and Platoon Guide. He was promoted to Corporal and Sergeant during this tour.

November 1983 -Sergeant Vetter is assigned to Headquarters Batter, 2d Battalion 10th Marines, 2d Marine Division, Camp Lajeune, North Carolina, to serve as the Battalion Communications Technician Chief.

March 1985 -Sergeant Vetter is assigned to Communications Company, Headquarters Battalion, 4th Marine Division, Cincinnati, Ohio, for duty as a Wire Equipment Technician and Armorer.

April 1988 -Sergeant Vetter is assigned to Headquarters Company, 8th Marines, 2d Marine Division, Camp Lajeune, North Carolina, for duty as Technician and Platoon Sergeant.

December 1988 -Staff Sergeant Vetter is assigned to Headquarters Company, 2d Reconnaissance Battalion, 2d Marine Division, Camp Lajeune, North Carolina, for duty as Company Gunnery Sergeant and Career Planner.

November 1989 -Staff Sergeant Vetter is assigned to Headquarters and Service Company, 2d Battalion 2d Marines, 2d Marine Devision, Camp Lajeune, North Carolina, for duty as Battalion Career Planner.

November 1991 -Staff Sergeant Vetter is assigned to Combat Engineer Battalion, 2d Marine Division, Camp Lajeune, North Carolina, as Battalion Electronics Maintenance Chief.

February 1992 -Staff Sergeant Vetter is assigned to Marine Wing Communications Squadron, Marine Wing Command Group-28, New River, North Carolina, for duty as Telephone Switchboard Electronics Maintenance Chief.

December 1992 -Staff Sergeant Vetter is assigned to Headquarters and Service Battalion, 2d Force Service Support Group, Camp Lajeune, North Carolina, for duty as Telephone and Computer Maintenance Chief.

September 1993 -Staff Sergeant Vetter is assigned to Detachment 1, Communications Company, 4th Service Support Group, Fort Wayne, Indiana, for duty as Telephone Switchboard Technician and Training Officer.

September 1997 -Gunnery Sergeant Vetter is assigned to Electronics Maintenance Company, 2d Maintenance Battalion, 2d Force Service Support Group, Camp Lajeune, North Carolina, as Telephone Office Equipment Management Chief and then as the Company First Sergeant in December of 1997.

October 1998 -First Sergeant Vetter is assigned to India Battery, 3rd Battalion 12th Marines, assigned to 5th Battalion 10th Marines, 10th Marine Regiment, 2s Marine Division, Camp Lajeune, North Carolina, as Battery First Sergeant.

May 2002 -Vetter is promoted to Sergeant Major and is assigned as the Battalion Sergeant Major of 3rd Battalion 10th Marines.

January 2004 -Sergeant Major Vetter is appointed as the Battalion Sergeant Major for the Second Assault Amphibian Battalion, the largest independent Battalion in the 2d Marine Division.

February 2006 -Sergeant Major Vetter retires from United States Marine Corps.
